What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file that a website saves in your browser to remember information between visits. This site also uses local storage, which serves a similar purpose and is governed by the same rules.

The necessary ones cannot be switched off
The first three are essential for the site to remember your preferences. They do not track your browsing, they are not shared with anyone and they never leave your device: they live in local storage and are not sent with any request to the server.
The optional ones only load if you say yes
Advertising does not load until you accept. Measurement uses Google's consent system: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it sets no cookies until you accept them, and if you decline, only aggregate data with no identifiers is sent. The site works exactly the same if you reject everything: no functionality is lost.
How to change your decision
Click the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer, at any time and from any page. You can also clear the site's storage from your browser settings, and you will simply be asked again.
Advertising
The site shows ads from Google AdSense. Its script only loads after you accept cookies: if you decline, nothing is downloaded from Google and the site works the same, just without ads.
When you do accept, Google may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other sites. You can configure or switch off personalisation directly in Google's ad settings, and see how it handles data in its partner sites policy.
Measurement cookies: Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is used to find out which calculators get used. It sets two cookies:

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland these cookies are not set until you accept them. If you decline, Google receives only aggregate data with no identifiers. Outside those countries measurement is on by default, as their law permits, and you can switch it off from the preferences link in the footer.
Other third-party cookies
Apart from advertising and measurement, the site embeds no videos, maps, social buttons or external fonts, which are the usual sources of third-party cookies. If any further integration is added, this page will be updated before it goes live.
